This year we are live at the Great North Bike Ride, we have all the live updates on the ride here.

Over the years the Great North Bike Ride has become a well-known event. The event happens yearly in August and attracts thousands of cyclists from the country to take part.

The ride starts at Seahouses and ends at the Spanish battery in Tynemouth, taking the cyclists through the county’s breathtaking coastline and through historical towns.

The event was started by Lynn Lucas in 2000 in aid of Chris Lucas Trust in memory of Chris who died age 16 of rhabdomyosarcoma. Money raised from the event funds medical research into this form of cancer
